Playful oversized jewellery, combining traditional metalwork skills and an innovative use of materials inspired by a range of influences from underwater fauna to drag queen culture. These bespoke pieces often feature non-conventional or ‘waste’ materials, alongside precious metals and gemstones, with the transformation of the undesirable becoming a recurrent theme throughout the practice. The use of the tacky and the garish are translated through material and aesthetic choices, combining neon colour with the fake stone effects found in domestic finishes.
In her latest collection, Sabira uses a combination of Corian, Perspex and Sterling Silver featuring moveable rivets, adding dynamism and mimicking the way in which cells multiply and grow. This tactile quality allows the wearer to interact and engage with the piece, positioning it as they wish.
