“All art is but imitation of nature.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

My work is inspired by nature and how humans and animals interact with each other and their surrounding landscapes. Sculpting clay is something humans have been doing for thousands of years and the results can be timeless works of art. This collection of work has used both traditional and experimental methods to create individual, sincere pieces with a handmade quality to them. The sculptures are intended to provoke memories of peoples’ own pets and experiences – giving them a different meaning and triggering different emotions to each different person.

The colour palette is playful yet sophisticated – again, inspired by surroundings and nature itself. The sensitivity of the colours is echoed in the decoration, with foliage and earth being the main inspiration.  Oxides and glazes have been applied in various different ways such as dripped, painted and sponged on to add depth and intrigue. Although the pots are functional as storage vessels or vases, the sculpted animals have been kept purely decorative.
